No Achievement Tests or Final Exams this Semester

Due to the disruption COVID-19 is having on our spring semester, we will not be administering achievement tests or final exams in April or May. While achievement tests offer important summative assessments, we are concerned with the validity and reliability of these tests considering the factors affecting students this spring. Besides, when we are able to see our students in person again, we want to maximize opportunities for learning – not hours of assessments.

Even though students in grades 6-12 will not have semester exams, teachers will continue assessing students’ demonstrations of learning. Eliminating semester exams will allow students and teachers to focus more narrowly on specific concepts and skills through the end of the school year rather than having to reconnect to what was taught and learned at the beginning of the semester.

Currently, we are scheduled to continue distance learning through April 24. As soon as we have an update concerning our plans beyond that date, we will notify you.
