Preliminary Fall Campus Re-Entry Plan

After much deliberation, the Berean Academy school board has approved a preliminary plan for students and staff to return to campus for the fall 2020 semester. This plan is intentionally broad and somewhat generic, because the conditions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic change so frequently. These conditions will be re-evaluated at the end of July, so more specific and appropriate decision making can occur. A link to the Re-Entry Plan is listed at the bottom of this post.

Two critical components to our re-entry plan are handwashing and health screening. Teachers of all grade levels will instruct students on the importance of regular handwashing, as well as the proper methods of handwashing.

To assist in helping students have clean hands, all students are to bring their own bottle of hand sanitizer to school on the first day of classes. The hand sanitizer bottle should be labeled with the student’s name and have a 60% or greater alcohol solution. Students in grades 3 and up will keep their bottles of hand sanitizer with them throughout the school day and be encouraged to use them regularly for hand cleaning. Students in grades 2 and lower will give their bottles of hand sanitizer to their teachers, who will dispense the sanitizer at scheduled intervals.

The second critical component of our re-entry plan is screening staff and students before they enter school buildings. Multiple options for the effective and efficient implementation of screenings are being investigated and considered. Specific screening protocols will be communicated once the best options are determined.

One specific consideration for limiting close interactions among students is to allow P.E. students to wear their P.E. uniforms to school on the days they have scheduled P.E. classes. Doing so will eliminate the need for students to use the locker rooms, and thus have close interactions while changing clothes.

Students in grades 5-8 wear P.E. uniforms and have P.E. classes twice a week. High school students who choose to take a P.E. class wear P.E. uniforms and have P.E. classes three times a week in the fall and two times a week in the spring. P.E. uniforms must be purchased through our online store. This store will be open from July 1 to July 19; the passcode to enter the store is BEREANPE20. This year, we have added P.E. sweatpants for students. If students choose to wear sweatpants for P.E., they must wear the ones sold through the P.E. store.

Students are expected to have their P.E. uniforms on the first day of school, so parents are strongly encouraged to purchase them through the online store during the July ordering window.
